Disability and Sexual Activity – SIECCAN

March 11, 2025 |

SIECCAN has put together several excellent simpler-language print based info sheets on sexual health for people with disabilities. The Sex Information & Education Council of Canada (SIECCAN) is a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1964 that works with health professionals, educators, community organizations, governments, and corporate partners to promote sexual and reproductive health. This info sheet discusses sexual activity – some of the barriers that disability may pose, and ways around them. It’s useful both for people with disabilities and for those who support them, giving nuanced but easy-to-understand framings of the topic.

You can download the pdf here.

You can find all the print and video resources on these topics at SIECCAN’s sex & disability resource page. (Note: while the page specifies that the resources are for people with physical disabilities, the resources are also very relevant to people with intellectual disabilities.)
