WHO ARE WE

Connecting Queer Communities is run by three people:

Alison (she/fae)
Peer Coordinator

Hi! I’m Alison and I’m from Vancouver. I use she/fae pronouns. I am neurodiverse and queer. I have my Master’s Degree from Athabasca University in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Adult Education and Disability. It just means that I take many theories from many different subjects from the social sciences (think of anthropology or sociology) and put it into my own terms for my thesis. I have a radio show and podcast on Co-op Radio about arts and culture in the disability community, called The Self Advocate. When I’m not studying or working on my radio show, I like to knit, go to festivals, concerts, art shows, and conferences, and watch both The Young and The Restless and reruns of Law and Order (any of the franchise!). Did you know that there are two queer couples on The Young and The Restless?!

Kelsey (she/her)
Project Lead

Hi! I’m Kelsey. I’m a queer, non-binary sexual health educator. I work with Real Talk, and I loved spending 2023 leading the first year of the Connecting Queer Communities project. I see my Project Coordinator role as a stage manager: I’m behind the curtains, behind the scenes, trying to make magical things happen! I coordinate transport, arrange tickets for events, and plan collaborations with different disability and queer-focused organizations across the Lower Mainland. You can reach me at kelsey@real-talk.org.

John (he/him)
Real Talk Project Manager

Hi! I’m John. I’m a queer, cisgender male sexual health educator. I manage Real Talk, and I’m  excited to see what the Connecting Queer Communities project will create this year. I spend a lot of my time dealing directly with the managers at various community living organizations like Kinsight, BACI, and posAbilities. You’ll probably see me here and there at CQC events but like Kelsey I will be more in the background. On the other hand, if you need help with anything don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reach me at john.woods@gobaci.com.
