LGBTQ folks with diverse abilities (or folks with diverse abilities who are questioning or curious about their gender and / or orientation) meet using the Zoom app, watch some Real Talk videos, and participate in a conversation facilitated by a certified sexual health educator.
Real Talk events have moved onto Zoom! You’ll need a computer / smartphone / tablet, headphones, and (ideally) a private place to watch.
At 2:00PM on Tuesday, June 23rd, click the Zoom Meeting link we emailed to you. This will prompt you to download the Zoom application if you haven’t already, and when the meeting is live you can join it.
BE SURE TO BRING EARPHONES!
This will ensure our conversations will be heard by only you.
Question 2: Okay… so what happens at an LGBTQ Online Hangout?
As people join the virtual event, they are welcomed by the facilitators. While we wait for everyone to arrive, there are some activities to get people thinking about the subjects we’ll be discussing.
Once everyone has arrived, the facilitators lead some brief introductions. Then we begin screening video episodes from the Real Talk video catalog. After each episode, we check in with everyone about whether the things discussed in the videos are interesting or relevant to them. We invite discussion, reflection, and questions.
Since this is a virtual event, we can’t all eat pizza together like we usually do! But we will be sure to take a break part way through so you can stretch, leave the space where you’re watching from, grab something to eat, or chat to others.
Our goal with each event is to provide an encouraging, inclusive and comfortable space for folks to honestly share about love, dating, sex and relationships. What are people’s experiences? Hopes? Dreams? Frustrations? Disappointments?
Please note: The maximum number of attendees at a Real Talk Zoom Hangout is 12. We do this so that everyone has a chance to participate and share ideas if they want to. If you try to register someone and the event is full – don’t worry, we’ll be running these frequently while Social Distancing is in effect. If you have an event link from signing up one person please DON’T pass it on to others who have not registered. This will keep the event more confidential and more useful for everyone.
